University of Oregon Human Trafficking class 2011-2017Thank you to all the great people who were speakers at our University of Oregon Human Trafficking class for seven years! Speakers included organizations, law enforcement, public officials, and survivors. We were honored to have Abraham Escobar (picture on left) and Bethany Miles for NWFamily Services, State Reps Jefferson Smith and Brent Barton, James Barta, Joel Shapiro, Cyndi Romine (Called to Rescue), Labor Commissioner Brad Avakian, Diana Janz (Hope Ranch), Rebecca Bender, Jim Grenfell (Aware) Tomas Perez (Everyman Protecting Innocent Kids - EPIK Project), Rita Hill (Stop Child Trafficking Now), Portland Police Sgts Doug Justus, Mike Geiger, Charles Lovell and Officers Meghan Burkeen and Brendan McQuire, Eugene Detective Curtis Newell and Sgt. And thank you to the student groups Slavery Still Exists and U of O SAMS (Students against Modern-day Slavery - Kristen Rudolph and Emily Palmer) for all the extra events you coordinated during our time there, including speaking events, silent vigils with candles walking across campus, chalking the sidewalks, bands, and crosses in the grass to represent victims. You were fantastic!
